What causes hearing loss?
The most common cause of hearing loss is old age. Other causes include hereditary problems, diseases, infection, certain drugs, injury and exposure to excessive noise.
According to the Royal National Institute for the Deaf (RNID), some 42% of the over 50s in the UK experience some hearing loss. This rises to nearly 92% of the over 80s.
There are about 2million people in the UK who wear hearing aids but about 9million people with hearing loss who are not aware or in denial.
Research has shown that many people stuggle for years before seeking help. The number of people losing their hearing is on the increase because they have been exposed to loud noise in work and through the increase use of personal stereos, MP3 players etc.

What are your options if you have a hearing problem?
You have two options:-
- Book a private appointment with us and have a free hearing test with a Registered Hearing Aid Audiologists.
- Visit your GP who will carry out a basic ear examination. He may then either refer you to a private hearing aid company or the your local NHS service.
What’s the difference between NHS and private hearing aids?
Putting aside the likelihood long waiting lists on the NHS you will also have a limited range of hearing aids on offer. The Hearing Company are able to supply several different types of hearing aids to suit all budgets and can even visit you at your home.
