Meet the Team!

Ravi Sohal – Optometrist

Ravi Sohal is our resident Optometrist. He graduated from the University of Cardiff in 2001 and was awarded the title MCOptom by the College of Optometrist in 2002. He is registered with the General Optical Council (GOC), the Association of Optometrist (AOP), the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) and the National Health Service (NHS).

Ravi’s training and experience involved working in general practice and within the NHS hospital eye service. He received extensive training in contact lenses, ocular disease and vision correction.

In 2003 Ravi joined the practice on a part-time basis when the owners retired in 2007 he took over as the lead practitioner. Since then the practice has undergone extensive modernisation with a significant investment in technology. We have implemented the latest digital imaging equipment, OCT scans, computerised test charts and visual field equipment.

Annupe Tawana – Optometrist

Annupe is our part-time Optometrist. She graduated from Aston University in 1993 and was awarded the title MCOptom BSc by the College of Optometrists in 1994. She is registered with the General Optical Council (GOC), the Association of Optometrists (AOP) and the National Health Service (NHS). She has worked in the hospital eye service as well as in general practice.

Annupe has been with us since 2008 and has a caring and professional approach to patients. She always puts patients at ease, is very friendly and ensures every patient is well looked after.

Deepak Taheem – Optometrist

BSc(Hons) Prof cert Glaucoma. DipTp(IP) MCOptom

Deepak is also one of our part-time optometrists. He graduated from City University in 1999 and was awarded the title MCOptom in 2000.  His special interests include glaucoma and ocular therapeutics and holds further postgraduate qualifications in these areas.

Deepak is a registered independent prescriber and is, therefore, able to prescribe medications for a wide range of eye conditions. His professional time is divided between independent and hospital practice.

Jade – Optical Assistant

Jade is our newest member of staff. She is an Optical Assistant with five years of experience working in independent practice. Her friendly demeanour puts customers at ease, and she always gives honest advice.

Joanne – Dispensing Optician

Jo has a wealth of experience having been in the optical industry for almost 20 years. She qualified as a Dispensing Optician in 2006 and has since managed practices in Newcastle before relocating to London. Jo’s role is to find the best optical solutions for each patient, helping them to make informed decisions on the best eyewear for them. She ensures the smooth running of the practice and is passionate about delivering the best patient journey for anyone visiting Blackheath.

Suzy – Dispensing Optician

Suzy is one of our dispensing opticians who qualified in 1980 at City & East London College and joined the practice in 2002, Suzy does most of the admin jobs in Blackheath but when she isn’t doing that she’s dispensing, Suzy has a lot of knowledge and experience when dispensing ,she is very good at choosing certain styles to suit peoples face shape and is very honest with her advice. When Suzy isn’t at work she enjoys spending time with her family.

Veena – Optical Assistant

Veena has been part of the team since 2007.  She is a bright, bubbly person and an excellent organiser. Veena also has considerable experience in helping people to choose the right spectacles to suit them. Veena is currently on Maternity leave, however, she pops in very regularly with the buggy and baby of course.

Sue – Optical Receptionist

Sue is the longest serving member of the team, and though now with us on a part-time basis she remains an integral part of the practice. She has sound clinical knowledge that she always happily and confidently imparts to patients when needed.
